The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened early Saturday morning on Alcoa Highway.

At just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, KPD officers responded to the northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway near Woodson Drive to investigate a crash involving a Hyundai sedan and a tractor-trailer. The driver of the Hyundai, an adult woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on the preliminary investigation, it is believed that the Hyundai was traveling south in the northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway when it struck the tractor-trailer head on.

KPD crash reconstruction investigators responded to the scene and are leading the investigation into the crash.

One northbound lane of Alcoa Highway remains closed.
